STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Structural engineers are most commonly involved in the design of buildings and large nonbuilding structures

but they can also be involved in the design of machinery, medical equipment, vehicles or any item where structural integrity affects the item's function or safety. Structural engineers must ensure their designs satisfy given design criteria, predicated on safety (e.g. structures must not collapse without due warning) or serviceability and performance (e.g. building sway must not cause discomfort to the occupants).

Structural engineering theory is based upon physical laws and empirical knowledge of the structural performance of different materials and geometries. Structural engineering design utilizes a number of simple structural elements to build complex structural systems. Structural engineers are responsible for making creative and efficient use of funds, structural elements and materials to achieve these goals.

Forensic Inspections

are on site investigation and evaluations performed by a professional engineer to determine the cause of damage to a structure.

Lateral Analysis

which is the design and approval of a structure for resisting the horizontal loading caused by wind or seismic forces.

Vertical Analysis

is required in many instances for The Registrar of Contractors hearings and civil hearings. The professional engineer testifies as to his findings based on his professional intuition and experience concerning structural issues.

is a specific type of foundation using a slab of uniform thickness reinforced with steel tendons. The tendons are stretched taut, which places the entire foundation in compression to better resist various soil conditions.
